The Hordes Arrive

FINALLY!!! Some great news for the Quincho Project!  Today, hordes of tradesmen have descended upon our beloved Quincho to give it a much needed kick in the proverbial pants.  We now have simultaneously – Masonry finishing the firebrick, Stucco applying the first two coats of what they call “brown” stucco (this is the base before they apply the final color coat) and the plumber running the gas line for the igniter.  Tomorrow, we expect the construction crew to begin installation of the arbor.  The next two weeks should prove to be a flurry of activity to get this thing done.  The grill will probably go in as soon as the firebrick mortar is set enough to drill through it so we can install the parts.  Landscaping should show up sometime in the middle of all this for low voltage lighting, irrigation and plant installation.  At the end of a long and tiring day here’s what we have now – This is exciting!!!

Of course, there is ALWAYS the bad news.  When the arbor crew arrived this morning we find out that they didn’t have the latest copy of the plans that the landscape architect had to redo because they weren’t in line with city regs (wouldn’t you check with the city FIRST before drawing up plans?).  So anyhow, the copy he gave them either wasn’t the same copy everyone else on the project had, or the builders were going off the old plans.  Either way, since they built the arbor offsite, when they showed up it didn’t match.  Now we are set back while they figure this out.  Grrrrrrr.

About The Quincho Project

Dedicated to the pursuit of all forms of live fire cooking and the thoughtful prose it evokes. Whether prodding at a dying fire, patiently waiting on a perfect steak or simply contemplating a thin blue curl of smoke - I am truly at peace.
