A Snail’s Pace

Well, at a snail’s pace the Quincho Project grinds on.  Half of the arbor crossbeams were put in place yesterday, with the rest supposedly coming in today (just talked to my wife and they are at the house now making a bunch of noise).

50% is better than 0% I guess…

Here’s where they left it yesterday.  When they finish today they will come back Friday to paint a final coat and touch up anything that got screwed up.

Meanwhile the landscape architect is hard at work putting in the irrigation in the front yard and all around the quincho.  We have selected some beautiful plants so this will be a nice finishing touch.

I should make mention of a couple other things at this point.  We have selected a (very) high tech lighting system by FX Luminaire that allows us to group our quincho lights in themes and dim each group independently.  This should give us a pretty dramatic effect in the quincho.  Once they are in I’ll try and take some photo’s of the way it lights up… fingers are crossed.

We are also adding a custom driveway gate that opens on a remote and from a button in the house.  We gave the fabricators 5000 bucks to get started and he didn’t show up last Monday as promised and is not returning any phone calls.  This guy is making me nervous.  Most contractors on the whole are complete flakes (they rarely return phone calls and any schedule they give you is usually bogus) once they get your money, but this is somewhat unexpected.  More as this drama develops.  We’ve been lucky so far.

About The Quincho Project

Dedicated to the pursuit of all forms of live fire cooking and the thoughtful prose it evokes. Whether prodding at a dying fire, patiently waiting on a perfect steak or simply contemplating a thin blue curl of smoke - I am truly at peace.
